Of all the things that make up springtime, the humble butterfly is amongst the most distinctive, and the most beautiful. To celebrate these amazing creatures, we have put together everything you need to know to draw your own butterfly in just a few short steps.
Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
Use a black pen to draw two small circles in the center of your page, and shade these with the black pen.
Bring a circular shape down from the bottom of this, and then add a long, thin shape to the bottom. Shade this with the black pen.
Add two curved lines to the top of the head.
Bring two more, longer curved lines across to the sides…
Add a “loop” to the end of each longer line…
And make this a little thicker.
Now, add another curved shape to the bottom of each “loop”…
And then bring a horizontal line in from the edges.
Make this horizontal line a little thicker.
Add a long, thin “loop” just above this on either side.
Now, add two more “looped” shapes to either side and draw a small “teardrop” shape to the top of these shapes.
Add a series of small circles all around this top space.
Now, use a black pen to shade the areas around the circles and loops.
Add a curved shape to the bottom of each wing…
And then add two long, thin “loops” – one inside each bottom wing.
Add another teardrop shape to the bottom of this, and then a curved shape above.
Add more loops to the edges…
And use the black pen to shade the spaces around the gaps.
Now, use an orange pen to shade the spaces in the bottom section.
And just like that, you have created a beautiful butterfly, just waiting to take flight – but who knows where her adventures will lead?
