If you are looking for a unique pet, or even just to learn about a lesser-known animal, the axolotl is a great option. A type of salamander, this fascinating creature comes in a wide range of colors, including black, gold, white and gray, and offer one distinct difference; they remain an aquatic creature throughout their entire life.
This makes them difficult to keep as pets, but if you are willing to put the effort in, you can still learn a lot. To get started, we will learn how to draw out our very own creature.
Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
Begin with a black pen, and draw a large almond shape in the center of your page.
Add a series of three “finger shapes” emerging from the right-hand side of the shape, making sure that these are curved at the ends.
Repeat this on the left-hand side of the shape…
And add two circles to the center of the almond shape. Then add two smaller circles inside these larger ones – these will be the eyes of the creature.
Now, add another shape below these eyes – this should be long and thin at either end, and curve up in the center.
Add a smaller almond shape in the center.
Now, add another curved line descending from the bottom of the main shape, towards the bottom right-hand corner of the page.
At the end of the line, add a tall “U” shape, and then another to the right of this.
Connect the two “U” shapes together with a curved line, and then add another curved line from the right-hand point of the original shape, heading downwards.
Next, add another curved line emerging from the bottom “finger” on the right-hand side, curving up, across and back down.
At the end of this line, add a curve to bring the line back down and across in a wavy line, completing the outline of the tail.
Add another, smaller shape inside the tail, connecting the ends with a curve.
Add another two legs to the front left hand side.
Use a brown pencil to fill in the mouth and the eyes, leaving the centers blank on each of these.
Take a red pencil, and add color to the inside of the tail and the “fingers” around the face.
Use a pink pencil to fill in the rest of the body and complete the look.
And there we have it – your very own super cute axolotl! Keen to find out more about these curious creatures? Why not do a little research – there is plenty to learn and appreciate!
