Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
1.

Start by taking a black fineliner pen, and adding a small “squiggle” in the left of your page.
2.

Use the fineliner to add a circular shape to the bottom of this “squiggle”…
3.

And then bring a curved line across to the right, down to meet the bottom of the circle, and then across and back up – this will be the hair of your girl.
4.

Add another curved line heading to the right, and curving down the face to meet the bottom.
5.

Next, add a short, curved line to the bottom left of the face, and an identical one to the right. On the right, continue the line across and down, before curling in at the bottom.
6.

Now, add a semicircle shape to the left of the left-hand line, and cut the top off this with a curved line. Add two small marks inside this, creating almost a “horseshoe” shape with the top cut off.
7.

Continue the left line across to the left, and then down and curving back in to the right.
8.

Next, return to the “horseshoe” shape. Bring two lines down at a diagonal from the bottom of this, and connect them at the end. Then, add another shape, this time slightly crooked, to the bottom. Extend the left line of this down slightly, and bring the right line down to a point, then follow it back up, curving across to meet the side of the first shape you drew here.
9.

Now, bring another curved line up from the line on the very left of your drawing (the outline). Angle this up at 45 degrees, then curve it up and across, running parallel with the curve you created in the previous step. At the top, angle the line across to the left to meet the top line.
10.

Now, add a wavy line to the right of this shape, and then being two angled lines down to create the edges of the skirt. Connect these at the bottom with another wavy line.
11.

Use the black fineliner to add a series of vertical lines and marks to the skirt, to create pleats.
12.

Now, bring two sets of parallel lines down from the bottom of the skirt, curving both to the right to create legs and feet. Add another curved section to the bottom of each for shoes.
13.

Return to the top section, and bring two lines down from the top right shoulder, both meeting at the bottom in a point – this is the strap of her backpack. To the right of this, add another curved line coming down, and heading across to the left to create the right arm. Add another line from the bottom of this, ending at the skirt for the right hand.
14.

Draw a “V” shape beneath the head, at the front of the neck, and then add a second “V” below this. Add a third line to the left “stem”, and then add two curved lines to the right. To the left of this, add a small square as you create the collar.
15.

Return to the backpack, and add a short line to the left of the outer section…
16.

Before adding two “almond” shapes to the face for eyes. Add a small circle inside each, and then add small dots inside the circles. Fill in the space around the dots.
17.

Add two lines for brows above each eye, and then add a “backward L” shaped nose.
18.

Add a small curve below the nose for a mouth…
19.

And then use a light brown pencil to shade in the hair.
20.

Grab a pink pencil, and color the straps of the backpack, the top of the handle, and the “curved” section.
21.

Use a lighter pink pencil to add color to the back of the backpack…
22.

And then use a blue pen for the skirt and the details of the collar.
23.

Grab the pink pencil, and use this to add color to the shoes.
24.

Now, use a light orange or peach pencil, and fill in the face, neck, legs, arms, and hands of the girl.
And there we have it – your new protagonist, just waiting to spring to life and tell her story!
