Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
1.

Start by taking a black fineliner pen, and drawing a small “almond” shape at the top of your page.
2.

Add a small semicircle mark above this, and then two curves, both pointing down, to create eyes. Add a few marks to the outside edges of the eyes for long lashes.
3.

Now, draw a diagonal line above the eyes.
4.

At the right end of this, curve the line around and bring it back across to meet the left end in a point.
5.

Add a large semicircle to the top of this for a riding hat, and then add a smaller “n” shape to the very center.
6.

Bring a “crescent moon” shape out from the left-hand side of the hat…
7.

And then enclose the face with a large, curved shape, angling this in slightly at the right end.
8.

Add two semicircles, one on either side, for ears, and make a small mark inside each of these.
9.

Now, add a long, thin shape below the face…
10.

And bring a curved line down slightly on the right. Repeat this on the left, this time extending the line down slightly further.
11.

On the right, add two curved, horizontal, parallel lines, heading off to the right. Join these at the end with a straight, vertical line.
12.

Add a small semicircle to the bottom line…
13.

And then add a wavy line to the left side to create hair.
14.

Add another section of hair to the right…
15.

And then bring a line down from below the right arm, and connect it to the left side with two horizontal lines.
16.

Just above this, add two short, horizontal lines, with a circle at the end of each.
17.

From below this, bring a curved line down, across to the left, and back up slightly. Then connect this to the left side with a curved line.
18.

Add two short, parallel lines to the end of this, and add a curved line to create a foot.
19.

Add a dashed line emerging from the top of the boot, across to the left, and then another curved line across this one.
20.

Next, add two parallel lines across the bottom of the boot, and bring two vertical lines down from this.
21.

Add a “reverse c” shape to the front of the leg, and bring a curved line across and up on the left to create the saddle.
22.

Add another rim outside the edge of the saddle.
23.

Next, bring a hand out from the end of the sleeve…
24.

Bring a line up from the front of the saddle, passing in front of the hand and extending slightly above this.
25.

Add a “point” to the top of this to create one equine ear…
26.

And then bring a line down from just below the tip of the ear to the top of the sleeve, and then one just below.
27.

Next, add a wavy “almond shape” to the front of the ear to create a forelock, and then add another tiny point behind it to create the second ear.
28.

Bring a line down from the front of the forelock, and then bring it out, down and back in to form a nose, and add another shape, this time slightly shorter, below for the outline of the jaw.
29.

Add a curved line to the nose and jaw section, and then add a small circle in the nose for a nostril…
30.

Next, add a circle to the left of the nose, and another, smaller circle inside the first to create an eye.
31.

Now, add two small “rings”, one below the eye, and one just to the left.
32.

Draw two wavy, parallel lines connecting the hand to the bottom ring, and then forward to the bottom of the nose.
33.

Draw another two lines to connect the bottom ring to the top one, and then the top ring to the bottom of the forelock.
34.

Bring a curved line across from the bottom of the jaw, and then down towards the bottom of the page.
35.

Extend this line down slightly, adding a slight bend at the knee, and then add another, parallel line to the left to create a leg.
36.

At the end of the leg, add a “bell” shape to create a hoof…
37.

Before bringing two more parallel lines out to the right of the first one.
38.

Add another hoof to the bottom…
39.

And then bring a line across from the back of the saddle, before curving it down towards the bottom left-hand corner of the page.
40.

Add another line to the right of this – this should run parallel at the bottom, and then flare out slightly.
41.

Add another hoof to the end of this…
42.

And then bring the top of the leg up and across to meet the front ones.
43.

Add a curved line beneath this for the belly…
44.

Add another leg just in front of the back one…
45.

And then add another hoof to the end of this.
46.

Next, bring two curved lines across from the top of the back, streaming across to the left and ending in a point to create a tail.
47.

Grab a light brown pen and use this to gently shade in the face of the rider.
48.

Use a yellow pen for the jodhpurs and the hair of the rider…
49.

And then use a pink pen to fill in the saddle, and add small pink spots to the cheeks.
50.

Use a red pen for the outside of the saddle, and the brim of the riding hat.
51.

Grab a brown pen, and use this to fill in the body of the horse.
52.

Use a brown pen again on the muzzle to add an extra detail.
53.

Now, use a light brown pen for the tummy…
54.

And add color to the boots of the rider with a dark brown pen. Use the same shade on the top of the hat.
55.

Now, use the dark brown pen for the hooves, mane and tail of the horse, as well as the elbow patch and button detail of the rider.
56.

Grab a cyan pen, and use this for the jacket…
57.

And then use a blue pen for the sleeve and collar of the rider.
58.

Finally, grab a black pen, and add color to the bridle on the horse’s face.
And there we have it – a horse and her rider, ready to take on all kinds of amazing adventures!
