Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
1.

Grab your black pen, and draw a triangular shape in the left half of your page – this should be curved at the left point.
2.

Add a short, curved line just above the bottom of this triangle.
3.

Next, bring a curved line up and across to the right from the top of the triangle…
4.

And then bring another line down from the bottom, curving across to the right.
5.

At the end of this, bring another curved line up, in, and back out to meet the top line, extending this down slightly at the bottom…
6.

And then fill in the gap at the back with another curved line heading down towards the bottom right-hand corner of the page, leaving a gap at the bottom of the wing.
7.

Add a second line just inside the top line of the wing…
8.

And a third just below this. Connect these all at the end with curved lines to create details of the wings.
9.

Add another curved line just below this…
10.

And repeat this with another shape below the first…
11.

Before adding a third layer below this.
12.

Now, add a large teardrop shape to the top of the head…
13.

And a small circle in the center of the head.
14.

Now, add another, smaller circle inside this one to draw the eye.
15.

Add two sets of parallel lines to the bottom of the quail’s body to create short legs…
16.

And then bring a curved line across on each, looping around towards the left.
17.

Add three small bumps to the end to complete the feet.
18.

Then, use a black fineliner pen to add a small oval shape to the cheek.
19.

Use the same fineliner to add a series of diagonal bumpy lines all across the belly of the bird.
20.

Fill in the beak and the section on the top of the head with an orange pen…
21.

Before using a black pen to fill in the eye, leaving the central circle blank.
22.

Fill in the spot on the cheek with a pink pen…
23.

And then use a brown pencil for the belly and the legs.
24.

Next, use a brown pen to fill in the back and feathers, as well as the feet, to complete your quail!
And voila, your quail has sprung to life before your very eyes – now all you need to do is learn a little more about it!
