Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
1.

Begin by taking an orange pencil, and drawing a wavy line at the bottom of your page. Make sure that the ends of each are curved upwards.
2.

Use a gray pencil to add two small circles to the left of this, just above and inside the end of the wavy line.
3.

Take a black liner, and draw a “crescent moon” shape inside each of the circles. Then, fill in the space to the right of these with the black.
4.

Use an eraser to remove the pencil lines from the eyes…
5.

Before using the black liner to add a small triangle just underneath the shapes, and a large rectangle below this. Make the top line of the rectangle thicker – the face of your cat is starting to form!
6.

Use an orange pen to add a little color to the top of the mouth, just underneath the thick black line.
7.

Grab the black liner, and draw two sharp, straight lines emerging from each side of the face – these are the whiskers!
8.

Use the orange pencil to turn your original line into a thicker shape, and fill this in completely. Add small “points” to the left-hand edge.
9.

Use a yellow pencil to repeat the shape on the top and once again, fill this in completely.
10.

Now, use a black pen to add a soft triangle shape just above the eye, slightly to the right, giving your cat some cute ears.
11.

Keep the black pen as you draw a series of three “spikes” along the top of your cat, heading downwards. These should be wider at the top and taper into a point at the bottom.
12.

Now, add two curved lines to the back, heading off to the right, and to the front, facing the left…
13.

Before adding a curly tail to the back of your cat!
14.

Next, add another ear, just to the left of the first.
15.

Take a gray pencil, and add two more circles around half an inch to the left of the cat’s tail.
16.

Use a black liner to add curved lines inside these circles, and fill in the space to the left of each.
17.

Add a small “heart” shape below these, and fill in the shape, leaving a small dot white…
18.

Before bringing a line down from the bottom of this, to create another horizontal rectangle. As before, thicken the top line.
19.

Use a gray pencil to add color to the top of the mouth, just as before.
20.

Now, add a long, thin “sausage” shape for the body of your dog…
21.

Using a black liner, add a “teardrop” shape just above the right eye, and a second, identical shape just beside this. Fill in this second shape with the black…
22.

And then fill in the first “teardrop” shape to create an ear.
23.

Repeat this shape to the left to create a second ear.
24.

Use a cyan pen to add a “stipe” behind the ears. Fill in the bottom of this with the cyan, and then leave a gap at the top, while continuing the outline.
25.

Use a cyan pencil to fill in the gap you just left.
26.

Now, use a gray pencil to add a zigzag shape across the back, just below the top line.
27.

Shade in the space above this with the gray pencil, and add this shape to the top half of the face.
28.

Then, carefully shade the space below, using a lighter hand.
29.

Finally, use a black pen to add front and back legs, as well as the tail to the dog, and complete the scene.
And there we have it: one of the most famous scenes in cartoons – not to mention real life! But just why is the dog chasing the cat? Use your imagination to complete the story.
