Of all the creatures that stalk the realms of mythology, the dragon is perhaps the most dramatic, with hundreds of tales and stories in their wake. If you are brave enough, we have everything you need to draw your own fearsome dragon – are you ready to get started?
Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
Grab a green pen, and draw a curved shape, with the bottom line slightly jagged, in the bottom right of your page. Add a jagged section to the left of the top line.
Behind this jagged section, add a large point, and then bring a jagged line down and across to meet the one on the right.
Fill this shape in with the green pen…
And then use a black pen to go over the jagged section at the back. Add a small triangle to the top for an eye, and then an angled line just behind this.
Use the green pen to bring an angled line up from the back, heading up towards the top left-hand corner of the page.
Now, add a large shape, like a backward “7”, to the end of this, making the tail of the 7 wavy, and the top curve a little longer.
Make this shape a little thicker with the green pen…
And then add three curved lines inside this, heading down to the bottom left-hand corner.
Bring the end of the bottom line across, and then add a tall “n” shape. Take this across to the right at a 90-degree angle on the top and bottom, and add small bumps to create the arm and hand of your dragon.
Fill this in with the green pen…
Now, connect this front leg to the face of the dragon with a wavy line…
And shade this section to create the body.
Return to the bottom curved line, and bring a line across, down, and then hook it back up and flick it slightly to the left.
Bring a line across from the leg you have created, and add another leg to the back, with the toes pointing downwards…
And then add another line to the bottom of the tail, bringing this across and up to meet the bottom leg.
Shade the back section with the orange pen.
Now, use the black pen to add details to the legs of your dragon.
Now, use the light green pen to connect the frames of the wing with curved lines.
Use the dark green pen to add lines across the belly of the dragon…
And then use the darker green pen to add a leg to the back.
Now, add another wing to the back of the first one with a dark green pen.
Fill in the wing with the green pen…
And use a white marker to add a point to the top of the front wing. Add two more points to the top of the body.
Use a yellow pen to add two tall horns to the top of the head, and then add spikes all across the back…
And then use an orange pen to add a “bubble” to the front of the mouth, and add curved lines around this. Add a small oval shape to the bottom of the bubble, and then a dot inside this.
Add a pointed, curved shape to the right side of the bubble of flame…
Fill in the main area of the flame with the yellow pen.
Now, use a black fineliner pen to outline your spikes, the claws and the horns.
And there we have it – a fearsome, fierce dragon, just waiting for the perfect adventure to go on – but just where will his journey take him? That is up to you…
