Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
Start with a black fineliner pen, and draw a large “n” shape in the center of your page.
Bring the bottom of each end to a point, and then bring a line back up and across, with short points in the center to create hair.
Add two bumps to the bottom of this, one on either side and then join these at the bottom with a curve to create the outline of a face.
Add two black dots for eyes, and then add two angled lines above this for eyebrows.
Add an “L” shape in between the eyes for a nose, and then a small, curved line to the bottom of this, creating the mouth.
Add a small square to the bottom of the face for the neck…
And then bring out two square shapes on either side for the collar.
Now, add a small triangle to the center of these squares, and add a curved line to the left side of the collar.
From this curve, bring a line down, and then add another to the right of this for one arm. Repeat this with the other arm, making this one slightly crooked at the elbow.
Add a “backward C” shape to the bottom of the arm, and a straight line to close the triangle in the elbow.
Now, add a bumpy line to the left of the “C” shape for fingers, creating the hand of your man.
Bring two lines down the side of the body, angling these in slightly towards the bottom.
Add a horizontal line at the waist, and then a short, horizontal mark just below this.
Now, add two more parallel lines for the legs…
And close these at the bottom with a short curved line.
Add two oval shapes for feet…
And then add a wide “n” shape to the right-hand side of your figure. Add two “bumps” to the ends of the line.
Bring a curved line across on the inside, with a small “point” to the left, and add a few marks to the left – this will be the hair of your second figure.
Add two “bumps” for ears, and connect these at the bottom to create a second face.
Add two small black dots for eyes, a button nose, and angled marks for brows.
Now add a small semicircle for the mouth of the second figure.
Add a small circle to the right of the head, and then add a long, thin shape for a ponytail.
Add a small square to the bottom of the face for a neck…
And then bring down two long, slightly curved lines for the outline of the body. Join these at the bottom with a horizontal line.
Add a square shape to the left of the body, and follow this with another hand on the right.
Connect the hand to the body using two curved lines…
And then add two sets of angled lines to the bottom of the girl for her legs.
Add a short, horizontal mark to each of these, and then join the legs at the bottom with slightly angled lines.
Now, add small oval shapes to the bottom of the legs for feet.
Next, add two triangle shapes joined with a curved line to the right of the girl. Add a large, curved line heading down, across, and back up to form the outline of a dog’s face…
And then add small triangles inside the ears, two small dots for eyes, and a small oval for a nose.
Bring two curved lines down from the bottom of the nose, and add a small “u” shape to the bottom to create a mouth.
Now, add a long, thin stripe to the bottom of the dog’s face…
And add two small legs and paws just below this.
Next, bring a curved line down on either side, bumping out and then out again, to form the main body of the dog.
Add a pointed tail to the right…
And then add another curve to the left of the man’s head.
Add a sharp, inverted “V” shape below the curve…
And then add two ears and the bottom of a face.
Add two angled marks inside the hair…
And then add two black dots for eyes, a small “arrow” for a nose, and marks for eyebrows.
Add a curved line for a smile…
And then connect the space just below the right ear to the man with two curved lines for hair.
Add another wide “n” shape just below this woman’s face…
And add ears and a curved line to create the outline of another face.
Add a curved triangle to the top of this face…
And then add eyes, nose, brows, and mouth, just as you did before.
Bring a short, diagonal line down from the top of the mother’s neck on the left, and another on the right. Then, continue the one on the right down, and angle it back in to the left.
Bring this line across and up, and add another line just above it, before drawing a short curve in the center of this new shape.
Add a curved hand to the end of this sleeve…
And then a small bump to the left of this.
Now, add another small hand just above this…
And bring down a bumpy line from the left side of the baby’s head, and then bring this across to the right.
Add the mother’s second hand to the left of this…
And add a “reverse L” shape just below the mother’s elbow.
Now bring down two angled, parallel lines, and connect these at the bottom with a straight line for a skirt.
Add two sets of parallel lines below this, for two legs…
And then add small oval shapes to the bottom for feet.
Now, add the top of another head, complete with a tuft of hair, to the left of the baby.
Add another line to the bottom to complete the hair, leaving a small gap in the left end…
And then add a few marks to the hair.
Add two ears and the curved line to create the face.
Then, add two dots for eyes, a button nose, a semicircle mouth, and two angled lines for brows.
Add a small “horseshoe” shape to the bottom of the head…
And then two parallel “V” shapes to the left of this collar.
Add a hand shape to the end of this sleeve.
Now, add two angled lines heading down from the right side of the collar for an arm.
Next, add a hand to the end of this…
Bring down two vertical lines on either side and then connect these at the bottom with a short horizontal line.
Now, add a pair of small shorts by adding two square shapes to the bottom, and joining these with a short horizontal line in the middle.
Add two small squares to the bottom of the shorts, and then add two more square sections above two feet.
Add small, curved dashes inside all the ears of the figures.
Then, use a pink pen for the ears and tongue of the dog.
Grab a red pen for her collar…
And then fill in the hair of the girl with a brown pen.
Grab a yellow pen, and use this to fill in her hair scrunchie and her sleeves…
And then use an orange pen for her dress and shoes.
Use a blue pen for her shorts…
And then return to the brown pen for the father’s hair.
Using a blue pen, add color to the jumper and shoes of the father.
Grab the yellow pen, and color his trousers and shirt collar.
Next, use an orange pen for the mother’s hair…
And a brown pen for her jacket.
Use a pink pen to fill in her shoes and dress.
Then, use the brown pen for the baby’s tuft of hair.
Follow this with a green pen for the baby’s outfit…
And then use the orange pen for the hair of the boy.
Fill in his mouth, shorts, and shoes with a brown pen…
And use a yellow pen for his shirt and socks.
Now, use the blue pen for his collar…
And use a pink pen to add a spot of color to each of the cheeks of your figures.
And voila – you have created a happy, smiling family with a dog, just waiting for their story to be told.
