Frogs are smart, curious creatures with a wide range of talents – including capturing flies using their long, sticky tongues. To celebrate their skills, we have put together everything you need to know to draw your own frog enjoying a crunchy fly; let’s get started!
Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
Use black pen to draw a wavy line across the left of your page.
Add a curved line to the right of this, and then a bump. Bring a curved line across from the right, and take this down and across to the left.
Add another “bump” just behind the first one…
And then add an oval shape inside the first bump for an eye. Add a smaller circle at the end of the curve for a nostril.
Now, add a “crescent moon” shape to the left of this, and add a smaller circle inside with a small dot in the center for the eye. Add the top of an eye to the right side.
Bring a curved line across from the right, taking this up towards the top right-hand corner of the page. Add another line below this, but make this slightly shorter.
Continue this bottom line across slightly, and then bring it down and across. Add a curve connecting the top line to the bottom of the face.
Use a black pen to fill in this section, and add a darker line to the bottom right.
Bring a curved line across above the top black section to the curved lines. Continue this line beneath the curved lines, and take this across to the left, with another line below.
Now add a foot to the bottom of this, with four sharp toes…
Bring a curved line across to the right and add another foot.
Bring the line up at the back to form the front leg…
And then add a curved line to the left, and add a backward C shape to the end.
Add another foot to the bottom of this, and bring the bottom line across to the left, up, and ten across to the right.
Add another curve above the tummy…
Connect this back leg to the line above with a curved line, and then add a curved, pointed shape to the back for another leg.
Add three loops to the top of the front leg.
Add a series of ovals and shapes to the back and body of the frog…
And then add a small fly to the end of the tongue.
Use a green pen to shade the spots on the frog, and all along the bottom of the body and the legs.
Use a lighter green pen for the rest of the body at the back…
And then a yellow-green pen for the tummy, the bottom of the jaw, and highlights on the main body.
Add shading to the tummy and to the bottom of the jaw with a gray pencil.
Now shade the tongue with a purple pen.
Now use a gray pen for the body of the fly.
Shade the wings of the fly with a sky blue pen…
And then grab the yellow-green pen again and complete the leg at the bottom.
And there we have it – a frog enjoying a crunchy fly. What adventures will he uncover next? The rest is up to you!
