Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
1.

Start by taking a black fineliner pen, and drawing a thin oval shape at the top of your page.
2.

Bring two bumpy lines down on either side of this…
3.

And connect these at the bottom with a curved line.
4.

Use the bumps in the middle to join the two sides with curved lines, and then add another long, thin “strip” to the bottom.
5.

Bring two lines down from the top, curving out to the sides, and then coming back down towards the bottom of the page. Join these with a curved line at the bottom.
6.

Next, add a series of small shapes to the right of the inside of the jar, getting gradually larger as you head towards the bottom.
7.

Repeat this with two more stacks, one to the left of the first, and the other slightly below.
8.

Add two marks to the top of each shape, making these slightly curved…
9.

And then add four wings to each creature, with two on each side of the body.
10.

Take a brown pencil, and add shading to the edges of the lid.
11.

Next, grab a yellow-orange pencil, and fill in the rest of the lid with this shade.
12.

Use a cyan pencil for the top of the jar, just below the lid…
13.

And then use a black fineliner pen at the end of the fireflies.
14.

Now, use a green pen to fill in the top set of wings on each of the fireflies.
15.

And an orange pen for their heads.
16.

Use a vibrant cyan pen for the bottom of each set of wings…
17.

And then a red pen for the bodies, leaving the bottom section white.
18.

Grab an orange highlighter pen, and use this to give the fireflies their distinctive namesake – a bright orange “glow”.
19.

Use a yellow pen around the edges of this to make this glow a little brighter…
20.

And then use the same yellow to add bright semicircles to either side of the jar.
21.

Use a cyan pencil to gently shade the rest of the jar…
22.

And then use a cyan pen to add a little extra color to the bottom of the jar.
And there we have it – a jar full of fascinating fireflies! Why not spend a little time learning more about these fascinating creatures – there is plenty to enjoy!
