Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
1.

Grab a ruler and a pencil, and add a tall, vertical rectangle to the center of your page. Use a vertical line down the center to divide this into two.
2.

Draw a small circle on top of the rectangle…
3.

And then a curved across the top of the rectangle, facing downwards.
4.

Add a line to the top of the rectangle, and another two slightly further down.
5.

Add a shorter line in between these two, and join them with short, diagonal lines.
6.

Add a long, thin rectangle to the bottom of the shape, and then add two diagonal lines to the sides. Join these with a horizontal line.
7.

Add two curved lines above this at the sides…
8.

Add two lines to the bottom, reaching across in a “U” shape…
9.

And then bring these lines up to meet the stripe at the top to create the handle.
10.

Make the handle’s corners rounded.
11.

Add a curved shape to the bottom, just above the handle.
12.

Draw the flame of the lantern just above this curved line…
13.

And add another circle just inside the one at the top.
14.

Use a black pen to go over all the outlines of the lantern…
15.

And then use an eraser to remove any unwanted pencil marks.
16.

Use a brown pen for the top and bottom of the lantern…
17.

And then use a black pen for the handle, the bottom of the flame, and the very bottom section.
18.

Grab an orange pen, and shade the outside of the flame.
19.

Add color to the next layer of the fire with the lighter orange pen.
20.

Use a yellow pen for the center of the fire.
21.

Finally, use a light gray pen to shade the glass area of the lantern.
And there we have it – no matter how quickly the night draws in, you will be safe, snug, and cozy with your handy lantern!
