Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
1.

Grab a black pen, and draw a long, thin curved point across your page.
2.

Connect the two sides at the bottom with a curved line.
3.

Now, add a small leaf shape to the bottom of this, with a leaf on each side.
4.

Grab a ruler, and use this and the black pen to draw two diagonal, parallel lines across the bottom, so that the leaves are in the center of these lines.
5.

Join the ends of the lines…
6.

And then bring a curved line up on either side of the central stem to create a large leaf shape.
7.

Add pairs of curved lines moving up the central stem…
8.

And then use a green pen to shade this section.
9.

Use a darker green pen for the central stem, and the leaves at the bottom.
10.

Grab a brown pen, and use this to add color to the twig…
11.

Grab a pencil and a ruler, and draw a series of horizontal lines all around the outside of the leaf.
12.

Use the black pen to add the labels to the relevant areas. From the bottom left corner: stipule, base, blade (lamina), vein, apex, margin, midrib, petiole (leaf stalk), axile.
13.

And then use an eraser to remove the pencil lines.
14.

Finally, use the black pen and a ruler to connect the labels to the correct parts of the leaf.
And there we have it – the first steps that you need to know to learn more about all-important leaves. There is plenty more to uncover, so why not do a little extra research?
