When we are children, there are a number of things that keep us awake at night. We worry about bad grades, disappointing our parents… and, of course, the monster under the bed. Are you brave enough to bring this scary figure to life in just a few short steps? Then let’s get started!

Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
1.

Start by using a black fineliner pen to draw a small “c” shape in the left of your page. Add a thin, long shape above this, and then another, smaller shape at a ninety-degree angle.
2.

Add a small oval shape inside the “c”, and then bring a point up from the top shape. Curl this around to the left, making the line jagged as you go, to connect to the top of the “c”.
3.

Now, add another line inside this first one, connecting the shapes on the other side.
4.

Add a large “C” to the back of this…
5.

And then bring the end of this back up to the top left-hand corner of the page, creating a “point”.
6.

Now, draw a short, straight line from the top shape, pointing towards the bottom left-hand corner of the page. Then, add a small oval just above the “c”, on the right.
7.

Add two more small oval shapes just below this first one…
8.

And then three similar shapes to the end of the straight line at the top.
9.

Now, add small semicircles to the ends of each of these ovals.
10.

Bring a line up from the bottom set of ovals, to a “reverse c” shape, and then up to the top set of ovals. Then, extend the lines of the “reverse c” out slightly, and add a small dot in the curve.
11.

Draw a large half-circle shape just above this bottom line…
12.

And then add a second half-circle shape inside this first one.
13.

Now, add another two half-circle shapes, almost like a horseshoe, to the top of the “reverse c”.
14.

Return to the straight line at the bottom, and curve this down at the bottom, heading towards the bottom right-hand corner of the page. Add another, shorter, curved line to the corner behind this.
15.

At the top of the straight line, curve this down diagonally…
16.

And then bring the line to a point, before curving it down towards the bottom of the page.
17.

Connect the two curved lines together to form the cover that the frightened child is clutching tightly in his hands.
18.

Now, add two “bump”, one above the other, to the right of the page.
19.

Add a curved line to the right of this, and then another, longer line below this first one.
20.

Take the black fineliner pen and a ruler, and draw two vertical, parallel lines down the left-hand side of your page.
21.

Now, draw two more straight, parallel lines to the top of these, this time angling up towards the top of the page.
22.

Use the fineliner pen and the ruler to draw another line across the page, skipping over the edge of the cover, and ending just after the curved lines on the right.
23.

Now, use the same tools to add another straight line to the top.
24.

Use the ruler and fineliner to add a vertical line to the end of the horizontal one at the bottom, and another to the end of the line at the top.
25.

Add a second vertical line to the right of the one at the bottom right…
26.

And then bring two angled lines across from the vertical lines on the right.
27.

Add two shorter vertical lines just inside the longer ones…
28.

And then add another horizontal line below the one at the bottom, connecting to the ends. Do you see the bed taking shape?
29.

Connect the ends of the bottom lines together to create the legs of the bed, and the ones at the top on the left to create the head of the bed.
30.

Now for the monster! Add a curved shape to the bottom of the bed, with a gap in the bottom middle. Then connect the top of this to the bottom of the bed with an angled line.
31.

Fill in the gap at the bottom with a bump…
32.

And then bring a curve down from the top towards the bottom of the page.
33.

Add three points heading across to the right, connecting to the side of the curve…
34.

And then add three triangles to the bottom for claws.
35.

Repeat this on the other side for a second hand and claws.
36.

Now, add two arrow shapes to the top of this, underneath the bottom of the bed.
37.

Then, add two smaller arrows inside the first ones.
38.

Add two sets of wavy parallel lines to the top of the shape. Join the inside ends with a straight line, and the outside ends with a point.
39.

Bring two short vertical lines down from the straight ends, and then “bump” these out at the bottom for the nose of your monster.
40.

Connect the two halves with a wavy line to complete the nose…
41.

Connect the edges of the nose to the bottom of the brows with curved lines…
42.

And then add two oval shapes inside these for eyes.
43.

Bring two curved lines across on either side of the nose, and curl the ends down to the bottom.
44.

Connect the two sides with a large curve at the bottom for a mouth…
45.

And then add two marks, one on either side of the mouth.
46.

Add a zig-zag line across the center of the mouth for a row of jagged teeth.
47.

Grab a black pen, and fill in the eyes and eyebrows of the human.
48.

Use a brown pen to add color to their hair…
49.

And then a light brown pencil for the body of the bed, and the skin of the face.
50.

Grab a blue pen for the cover…
51.

And then use an orange pen to fill in the eyebrows of the monster.
52.

Fill in the monster’s eyes with a green pen.
53.

Now, use a dark blue pen to fill in the triangle shapes on either side of the head.
54.

Use a light brown pencil for the teeth and mouth…
55.

And then color the body of the monster with a blue pencil.
Now, we don’t know about you, but that is one spooky scene… are you brave enough to look under the bed?
