Pianos are an incredible instrument, capable of creating the most stunning notes and beautiful songs. To celebrate these wonderful instruments, we have all you need to know to create your own piano – let’s get started.
Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
Use a ruler and pencil to add a “V” shape to the bottom of your page. Extend the left line across towards the top left-hand corner, and then take the line straight up. Add a line coming up from the “V”.
Add another line to the top of the left one, and add lines to the sides of the straight lines, joining these to the original lines with diagonal lines.
Add two more diagonal lines just below the top right, and then bring a line down towards the bottom right-hand corner of the page.
Bring a third line up on the left arm, adding angled lines to the top.
Join the line at the bottom of the “V” to the line above, with two more angled lines. This will be the space for the keys of the piano.
Add two small, angled rectangles to the top and bottom sections, and join these with a straight line. These will form the front line of the top of the piano.
Bring a line up from the one at the bottom, and then take a line across to the left to join the shape at the side for the side of the piano.
Bring two lines across from the bottom right corner, and take these across to the right to form the back of the piano…
Bring a line across from the left side of the piano lid.
Add another line from the top corner of this, to meet the line above, and add another line to this top one.
Add another two lines to those across the top of the piano…
And then add a diagonal line to the top of this, taking this diagonally, and then across to the right. Add two diagonal lines to the neck you have just created.
Bring two curved lines across at the top, taking these to a point.
Bring a curved line down from the point, and then add a line to the diagonal to the side.
Bring a straight line across at the top, and then angle this downwards, and add two “hook” shapes to the end of this. This will be the lid of the top of the piano.
Bring a line down below this at the back, and join this to the section in front with a horizontal line…
Now, add a series of long, thin rectangles to the front section for the keys.
Add two long, thin legs to the bottom of the piano…
And then use the ruler to add a line to the front of the piano on the bottom, and take the line across at the side, and then to the back.
Now, add a circle to the front of the piano, and add a curved shape to the bottom of this.
Add a long, thin rectangle to the bottom of this for the leg, and add another circle to the bottom of this, creating the piano stool.
Use a black fineliner pen to go over the outlines of the drawing….
And use an eraser to remove any outstanding pencil lines.
Grab a light gray pen, and shade the space at the bottom of the piano and stool, as well as the edges at the front.
Use a dark gray pen for the top and bottom of the stool, the top edges of the piano, and the top of the keyboard lid.
Use a black pen to shade the space under the lid of the grand piano.
Add color to the top of the lid, as well as the sides…
And use the same black for the sides and bottom of the stool.
Now, use the black pen to add the black keys to the ivories…
Finally, add shading to the spaces at the bottom for shadows.
And there we have it – a wonderful grand piano, just waiting for the first strains of music to fill the room with their magic.
