Imagine the scene: the stars are shining, the moon is bright, and a few raindrops are starting to snake down from the sky. In the distance, you see a romantic scene: a couple in love, cuddles together under an umbrella as they shelter from the rain. Sounds like a scene from a movie, right? Well, let’s bring it to life in just a few short, simple steps!
Step-By-Step Images and Instructions
Grab a black fineliner pen, and draw two dots to the left of your page, creating two eyes. Then, add two curved lines above this for brows.
Add a “backward “L” shape from the end of the right brow to create a nose, and then a short curved line below this for the mouth.
Now, bring a curved line down to the right, and ring this across to the left and then straight down towards the bottom of the page.
Bring a line across the top, and then straight down the left of the face, before looping this up and back down.
At the bottom of this, loop the line across and back up to create the outline of the hair.
Now, bring a short, straight line down from the bottom of both sides, and angle these in to meet at a point.
From this point, bring two angled lines up towards the top corners of the page, then bring the lines in and back out, angling them back in at the top for the lapels of a smart jacket.
Bring two horizontal lines across, one on either side and bring these down to just below the bottom of the lapels, where you angle the lines in slightly.
Next, bring two straight lines down from the bottom of the angled lines, and connect these at the bottom with a horizontal line, adding a slight “point” in the center. From this, bring a vertical line up, creating the jacket.
Add a vertical line down from the left shoulder, and then a diagonal mark just above the angled line on the right…
Before bringing two parallel, slightly angled, lines down from the bottom of the jacket, stretching towards the bottom of the page, creating the right leg. At the bottom, join the two lines with a horizontal line, and then add a point to the left, continuing the line of this across, down to a small, square “bump”, and back up – this is the right shoe.
To the left of this, bring down two short, parallel lines, and then angle these to the right, behind the leg, and emerging from the back. Add another shoe to the end of this.
Now for the other half of your couple! Repeat the two dots, brows, nose, and mouth to the right of the first face.
Bring a curved line down on the right, and then take this to a vertical line at the bottom…
Before curving the line across to the right at the top, and then bringing this down, out, and flicking across to the right.
Add another two lines to the bottom, meeting in a point…
And repeat the angled lines to create another set of lapels.
Add a curved line to the left shoulder, heading down to end just above the elbow of the other figure. Then, bring a wavy line across from the right shoulder.
Move so that you are level with the bottom of the collar, and bring down two parallel, vertical lines, one on each side. Curve these out and down, and then connect them at the bottom with a horizontal line.
Add a line parallel to the one on the left, and then bring this across horizontally for an arm. Then, add a “c” shape to the diagonal mark that you made on the man earlier.
Now, create the second arm of the woman by adding a curved line descending from the right shoulder, and then angling towards the bottom right-hand corner of the page. Add a second line parallel to this, and join the two at the end with a straight, angled line. Add a small triangle to the end of this for a hand.
Add a vertical line going up the center of the jacket…
And then add a “bucket” shape, complete with a loop on the top, to the right section of the coat.
Bring a curved line from the left of this, curving across and up to the left shoulder…
And add a series of small circles down the right of the center line for buttons on the lady’s coat.
Now, bring two parallel lines down from the bottom line, joining these at the end for the left leg…
And add two “points”, one long and one narrow, to create a heeled boot.
Next, create the second leg, by bringing two lines down from the bottom of the coat in a “V” shape, and joining these at the end.
Add another boot to the end of this…
And then complete the hair by adding a wavy line to the top of the shoulder, curving up and across the left of the head.
Next, add a slightly diagonal line between the couple, with the bottom looping around the man’s hand.
Add the top of the umbrella to this…
And then add a series of slightly curved lines to create the sections of the umbrella, including a small point at the top.
Now, add another “bumpy” line below the bottom of the umbrella…
And add a few more marks to create the inside of the umbrella.
Next, use a light brown pen to shade the faces, chests, and hands of the couple.
Grab a bright yellow pen, and fill in the umbrella…
And then use an orange pen to fill in the lady’s jacket.
Grab a darker orange pen for her purse and lapels…
And then use a dark brown to fill in the legs of both figures.
Now, use a black pen for the man’s jacket…
And use the same shade for the hair on both figures.
Use the black pen to fill in the shoes of the couple. Then use a pink pen to draw two circles on either cheek.
Then, use a gray pencil to add small smudges just behind each of the feet.
And then use a bold black pen to fill in the man’s lapels.
And just like that, you have your very own adorable couple, out for a rainy evening walk. Who are they? Where did they meet? What are their plans? The story is only just beginning…
